We are in this together!

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Warrington is: 1493 with 152 hospital admissions in the last 7 days, 25 of which are in ICU beds. The number of cases is set to rise and with it also being the cold/flu season, residents must take sufficient measures to ensure that they are safe from harms way by restricting their contact with others, wearing a face mask and gloves. We can also adjust our diets in order to boost our immune system. It has been reported that Vitamin C and Vitamin D can help significantly in reducing the risk of catching flu and according to a Boston University doctor, Dr. Michael Holick, Vitamin D can help reduce Covid-19 risk by 54%. Vitamin supplements are available at the local Aldi and pharmacies within Stockton Heath Village.

When we say we are in this together, we must pull together as a community to save lives here in the local vicinity as well as saving our local businesses too. There are a number of social media groups out there to help residents to keep in touch, one of which is the ‘Leave No One Behind – Stockton Heath, Appleton & Walton’ Facebook group. Another new group on Facebook is ‘Stockton Heath Community hub & Chat’. For businesses the ‘Promote Stockton Heath’ initiative, founded by Karen Hodgkins, business owner of Pets Pantry, Stockton Heath. Promote Stockton Heath is a great business resource for local business information, networking and support. You can get in touch by emailing: pshbizgrp@gmail.com or contact Karen Hodgkins, business owner of Pets Pantry, Stockton Heath & Andy Thorburn, from Berry Opticians in Stockton Heath, for further information.

On 31 December 2020, Warrington was placed into Tier 4 Severe Alert Level Restrictions and a further National Lockdown was introduced on the 5th January 2020. This has meant that a lot of local and independent businesses have had restrictions placed on them or they have had to close their doors completely during lockdown.

This is having devastating affects and some businesses are facing permanent closure. The government have a number of grants and loans to help businesses to stay afloat, one of which is the Business Support Grant. It is expected that support will be made available for all businesses that have closed due to lockdown, with additional one-off top up support available for businesses in the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure sectors.

The exact details for Business Support in Tier 4 and January’s National Lockdown have not yet been announced by the Government.

If you applied in November 2020 or December 2020 for Business Support through the National Lockdown (5 November 2020 to 2 December 2020) then you do NOT need to re-apply for Business Support covering Warrington’s Tier 4 and January’s National Lockdown.

If you haven’t applied in November 2020 or December 2020 for Business Support through the National Lockdown (5 November 2020 to 2 December 2020) then you can email  localrestrictionssupportgrant@warrington.gov.uk. For further information regarding loans and grants available for local businesses, please contact: Andy Thorburn, from Berry Opticians located on London rd. in Stockton Heath village.
