Pets Pantry in Stockton Heath is opting for Zero Waste

On a quest to reduce single use plastic, Pets Pantry have introduced a Zero Waste refill station.

Pets Pantry is fast approaching their 40th year in Stockton Heath and they have certainly grown in this time. Initially opening doors with a single floor shop to now having a two-storey shop, plus a warehouse at the rear with parking. Many customers collect their bulk buys from the rear of the shop, using their ‘click & Collect’ from their online store.

Karen Dutton HoPets pantry teamdgkins one of the business partners tells us:

‘We have always tried to move with the times, from our retail epos systems to our online shopping cart showing all our 10, 000 lines. We pride ourselves for remaining on the High Street, as well as embracing the internet and shipping goods daily, locally and nationwide.’

‘Our shop is always busy, and our warehouse is constantly receiving goods as well as packing goods ready to be couriered out throughout the UK. Our family owned business, popularity has remained over these years due to our large buying power, keen prices and local friendly qualified team; who know what they are talking about, when it comes to pet and wildlife care.’

Pets Pantry are so excited by this month’s launch of our newest project

– on a quest to reduce our single use plastic. In the 1980’s they had large seed bins in the shop, that customers could scoop their own pet foods into paper bags. Then along came plastic options and like all shopkeepers they were told this was the way forward. Their packing room grew busier and they cleared out the seed bins and put in more shelves to display their own pre-weighed pet & wildlife foods.

Karen further explains:

‘Sadly, we all know now, this was not the solution and too many single use plastics are clogging up our oceans and damaging fish and birdlife; along with our planet.’

‘We are excited, that this month we are introducing our zero-waste pet food refill station, where customers can come in with their own containers and fill up their favourite pet and wildlife. It is great that there are lots of zero waste human food shops popping up throughout the UK, but we believe we are the first pet store to introduce a zero-waste refill option for pet food.’

‘Our official launch week is Tue 27th – Sat 31st August and the response from our customers this far, has been very positive, they, like us, want to include their pets purchase in helping to protect the planet for the future.’

Pets Pantry have made a considerable investment in this new concept, with a specialist zero waste weighing system and state of the art food dispensers. This process will integrate with their epos till and provide a self-service system that will be seamless, slick, quick and allow customers to move through the till with their zero waste containers, with just the click of barcode.
